Junior, interested in neuroscience. It feels like everyone in my grade has "research" on their app and I have no connections. No parents in academia, nobody at my school does this. Do professors actually reply to random high schoolers? What do I even say? I don't want to be annoying. Also is it even worth it if I can't get a paper out of it? I've read some neuroscience papers for fun (the ones I can understand lol) and I know some Python from a class. Not sure if that's enough to be useful to anyone.
is NSLC or a pre-college thing at a big name school worth it for admissions or is it just expensive. they think it'll help me get into harvard specifically
No titles anywhere. But I run the setlist for my school's jazz band (pick the songs, figure out who solos, send the rehearsal plan to the director every week), and I train all the new freshmen on our robotics team on the drivetrain and the code. Can I call myself "Section Leader" or "Training Lead" even though those aren't official positions? I feel like I'm doing the job but there's no title to point to. My counselor said leadership is huge so I'm kind of stressing. I never ran for anything because I'm not great at speeches, and our NHS and student council are basically popularity contests.
title. listed it as 9-12. i'm so burnt out
My friend and I started a coding club sophomore year. If I'm being honest she did most of the organizing, and it died after 3 meetings. Can I list myself as founder and president? Do colleges actually verify this kind of thing or is it basically the honor system? We're not really friends anymore so I can't just ask her what she's putting. Everyone I know has like 3 "founder" things on their list and I have zero. It feels like the whole system rewards whoever exaggerates the most. Edit: I did make the slides for 2 of the 3 meetings, if that changes anything
food bank ~2 hrs/week, some weeks more some weeks zero. everyone else seems to list 10 hrs/wk for everything. can i put 6? it's not like they call the food bank
