do i need a spike or is well rounded fine

everyone online says you need a spike for top schools. I do a bit of everything: debate, volunteering, choir, tennis. am i screwed

No. "Spike" gets overstated online. Selective colleges admit both specialists and well-rounded students. What they want from either is depth and impact somewhere: years of commitment, growing responsibility, results you can point to.
Ask yourself which one or two activities you have done longest or care about most, and make those the clearest parts of your application. A well-rounded student with real commitment reads well. A list of ten shallow activities is what does not.
