Aid
Does applying for financial aid hurt international students?
How need-blind and need-aware admissions differ for international applicants who need financial aid, and how to build a realistic list around those policies.
SourceBased on what we at Aristo learned from the Stanford admissions office.

At most selective American colleges, the admission decision and the financial aid decision are linked for international applicants in a way they are not for US citizens. The office we learned from at Stanford was frank about it: unless the applicant had an extraordinary personal story or a truly singular talent, most colleges would not admit an international student who asked for aid.
For a family abroad, that changes the whole order of planning. The question of aid arrives earlier and carries more weight than it does for domestic applicants, and a list built without it can look strong on paper while offering few real paths to an affordable offer. Two terms explain most of what is happening.
