Appeals
Can you appeal a UC Berkeley rejection?
What UC Berkeley's accounts of admission appeals show about when new information matters, and why that context belongs in your original application.
SourceBased on what we at Aristo learned from UC Berkeley's admissions office and its published accounts of appeals.

UC Berkeley accepts appeals of admission denials, and its own research confirms that some succeed: the 2005 Hout report notes applicants admitted on appeal after an initial denial, including one in the very school it used as an example. Most selective colleges treat a denial as final, which makes Berkeley's openness unusual and, for a family facing a no, genuinely important.
The harder question is which appeals work, and Berkeley has answered it in public, through its own statements and through the accounts of students it later admitted. The answer turns out to be more useful than families expect, and not only to students who have already been denied.
