where can a 1450 get real merit money
3.9 UW, 1450 SAT. Parents make too much for need-based aid but they can't do $90k a year. Where do people actually get big merit scholarships?
- ?
Merit money is mostly at schools where you would be at or above their typical admitted student, and at schools that use scholarships to compete for students. A few patterns with a 1450:
1. **Large publics that recruit out of state students:** Alabama, Arizona, South Carolina, Ole Miss and others publish automatic or near-automatic scholarships by GPA and test score. Check each school's current grid, since amounts change every year.
2. **Privates that give merit:** Case Western, Tulane, SMU, Baylor, TCU, Fordham and Miami are worth checking. Many have scholarship deadlines earlier than the regular application deadline.
3. **Honors colleges** at strong state flagships often come with money.Run every net price calculator, and read each school's merit page for deadlines. Missing a December 1 priority date is the most common way to lose a scholarship you would have gotten.
