if the ED financial aid package isn't enough, can i actually back out?
Thinking about ED but my parents are worried about getting stuck with a price we can't pay. Is there a real way out or is that a myth?
- ?
Yes, it is real. ED agreements generally let you withdraw if the financial aid offer does not make the school affordable for your family. Every school's ED terms describe this.
To use it well:
1. Run the school's net price calculator before applying.
2. If the package comes in high, contact the financial aid office first. Sometimes errors or missing information get fixed.
3. If it is still not workable, tell admissions you are withdrawing for financial reasons. Do this promptly and withdraw your other applications only after the release is clear.
