Activities
Does a part-time job help your college application?
Why Stanford readers valued paid work as evidence of responsibility and time commitment, and how to describe a job's role and demands in your activities.
SourceBased on what we at Aristo learned from the Stanford admissions office.

Readers in Stanford's admissions office did not rank activities the way most families do. Many families quietly sort them by prestige: research and selective programs at the top, clubs in the middle, and a job at the bottom, listed apologetically if at all, or dropped from the page to make room for something that sounds more impressive.
That ranking shapes real decisions. Students turn down shifts to chase a summer program, compress serious weekly hours into a single flat line, or hide the work entirely, and the reader never sees one of the most revealing facts in the file. The office used one file in particular to train its readers, and their reaction to it says a great deal about what a job tells a reader.
