What GPA do you need for MIT? What admissions says
MIT's admissions accounts stress academic readiness and match not a single cutoff score or GPA. What that means for how you present your application to MIT.
SourceBased on what we at Aristo learned from former MIT director of admissions Matt McGann and MIT's admissions office.

A former MIT director of admissions, Matt McGann, spent years telling students that no one is admitted or rejected because of an SAT or AP score. In a public chat with prospective applicants he said there is no minimum GPA and that MIT does not recalculate grades. He added that the office had turned down students who represented their countries at the International Olympiad in Informatics and admitted others with no particular recognition at all.
Families aiming at MIT tend to treat it as a ladder of numbers, a GPA, a score and a list of medals, each one a rung. If the ladder does not exist, the obvious question is what the office reads for instead.
