Can you get into a top college with Bs?
An admissions reader's account of applicants with Bs on their transcripts, why no fixed number of Bs decides admission and what to do about a B already there.
SourceBased on what we at Aristo learned from the Stanford admissions office.

Readers at the most selective colleges expect a transcript close to straight As in the hardest courses on offer, and for an IB student that means sixes and sevens. In the Stanford office we learned from, a single B did not end the conversation, though the exceptions were rare: a reader might champion one or two such students in an entire season.
Families hear the first half of that and decide a B is fatal, or hear the second and decide it barely matters, and both readings cost students who still have time to act. The exceptions were not random.
