How Harvard reads applications by region (dockets)
How Harvard's regional dockets mean the same readers see your area each year, and why to explain what an activity or contribution means in your community.
SourceBased on what we at Aristo learned from Harvard admissions files that students requested, and from former Harvard admissions officers.

Harvard divides its applicant pool into dockets, groups of schools by geography, and the same readers see the same region year after year. A former Harvard officer who read much of California, Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico described what that does to a reader: they learn the area's common themes, its schools, its strengths and its gaps.
That knowledge cuts both ways for a family. A reader who knows a region well can see what a student's work meant there, but only if the file gives them something to see, and many applicants describe their community so generally that it could be anywhere. The difference showed up in one file that reader remembered, built around an activity that looked small.
