What changed this year

The Tufts prompts, quoted
Every applicant (150 words)
“Please describe how you have learned about and engaged with Tufts during your college search process (75-150 words).”
Limit: 75-150 words · Who: All first-year applicants · Required for this group
Tufts's readers see this answer more than any other, and most versions would survive a find-and-replace with another college's name. Try it on your draft: every sentence that still works with a rival's name in it has to go. What is left should be things you would actually use at Tufts, each tied to something you have already done, and at this length that means one or two things, not a tour.
If you apply to Arts and Sciences (200 words)
“Tell us about one of your favorite school assignments in the past two years. What was the assignment and why did you enjoy it?”
Limit: 100-200 words · Who: School of Arts and Sciences applicants · Required for this group
Readers check this answer against your transcript and activities, so it has to match them. Name the specific question, course or project that pulls you, show where the interest started, and point to what you would use at Tufts by its real name.
If you apply to Engineering (200 words)
“Tell us about an engineering or science-related project that you have helped build, design, create, or iterate in the past two years. What was the project and what was your role?”
Limit: 100-200 words · Who: School of Engineering applicants · Required for this group
Choose the commitment where your own part is clearest, even if it is not the biggest line on your list, and spend the words on what you did that someone else in your seat would not have.
If you apply to Fine Arts (BFA, SMFA) (200 words)
“Tell us more about a specific piece in your portfolio. What were the ideas you intended to explore, and how did those ideas inform the process of making the piece?”
Limit: 100-200 words · Who: Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA, SMFA) applicants · Required for this group
If you apply to Combined Degree (BFA+BA/BS) (200 words)
“Tell us more about a specific piece in your portfolio. How did an academic course, project, or interest inspire the ideas that you explored in this piece? Or, how did making this piece influence your academic interests?”
Limit: 100-200 words · Who: Combined Degree (BFA+BA/BS) applicants · Required for this group
How many words the Tufts supplement takes
350 words, depending on the school you apply to, counting each choice once at its limit.
A plan for writing the Tufts set
The Tufts engagement answer is literal: say what you did to learn about Tufts and what you noticed, such as a class you sat in on, a conversation or a program you read about. The school question then asks for one assignment or project from the past two years; pick the one you can describe in the most detail, including the part that did not work.
